We taught civic partners how to replicate our framework.

The Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition was looking for smart approaches to move their state safe school law from policy to practice.  We partnered with them and a number of community organizations in Portland, Oregon to help them understand our framework and how to replicate it to benefit Oregon students.

In 2009, the Oregon Legislature passed the Oregon Safe Schools Act – a critical piece of legislation to address bullying and harassment in schools. Throughout 2011-2013 the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition, Q Center, OGALLA: The LGBT Bar Association of Oregon, Oregon Public Health Division, the Oregon Department of Education and others sought to assess the adoption of the anti-bullying and harassment policy by schools districts.

In 2013, they engaged Safe School Certification to help strengthen efforts in Oregon. SSC provided technical assistance to move their state safe school law from policy to practice within districts and schools.

OSSCC continues to publish annual audits of district compliance in their “State of the Safe Schools Act” reports, which can be found here.
