“Tuesday turned out to be a preview of sorts of the Governor’s Bullying Prevention Summit.
The Drake University School of Education staged a two-hour panel discussion in Cowles Library, “Bullying: Educators’ Legal Responsibilities,” with four panelists: Jason Glass, director of the Iowa Department of Education; Brent Pattison, assistant clinical professor of law at Drake (as well as director of Drake’s Lyle and Joan Middleton Center for Children’s Rights and a former elementary and middle school teacher); Mary Gannon, attorney for the Iowa Association of School Boards; and Sue Schirmer, license renewal coordinator for Heartland Area Education Agency and an adjunct professor at Drake.
The audience of 100 or so in the reading room was primarily student teachers or new teachers.
