Educators

You are the eyes and ears of the school. For the rest of their lives, students will remember what you said or did to end the harassment and bullying they faced.

At the same time, you can’t be everywhere at once.

The Safe School Certification Program is designed to help build the school’s capacity to reduce bullying and harassment–from the principal to the students.

Schools that apply and admitted will get access to an innovative program that is helping schools realize the necessary steps needed to make their school one of the safest in the nation. The program is fee-free, incentive based and completely voluntary. Schools get: one-on-one, year-round support from staff, tools for school safety and the prestige of becoming safe school certified. Certification is also peace of mind. Inquiring about certification with school staff is a step in helping your school become a safer more welcoming place.

We encourage you to:

  • Make sure you and your students understand Iowa’s Safe Schools Law and amended Iowa Civil Rights Act.
  • Make sure you and your students know where your school keeps its bullying and harassment report forms and make sure they fill out this form with the school equity officer and/or school administrators when incidents of bullying or harassment or occur.
  • Ask your school to become certified.
  • Stay up-to-date on this program: fill out our interest form which will keep you informed through our Email Newsletter (click here).
