Kristin Aschenbrenner Named Program Specialist

The Safe School Certification Program has announced its selection of Kristin Aschenbrenner as its program specialist. Kristin will assist the Program Director and Advisor and will be responsible for helping Iowa schools navigate the certification process.

SSCP Highlighted By Senator Harkin, Secretary Duncan

Senator Tom Harkin and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recently wrote an article for the Sioux City Journal regarding the need to improve school climate and end bullying. In the article, both highlight the Safe School Certification Program.


Iowa View: Offer training for addressing harassment in schools

Schools are eager to reduce harassment and need guidance to better understand what harassment actually is (which is spelled out in the law), how to prevent harassment, and how to investigate complaints when harassment occurs. A key element of the law would remedy this by having within each district or school a designated and trained “investigator,” someone who has been trained in dealing with students who harass and those that are targeted.
